Green Army

To please Shiva, one must understand his qualities and the messages contained in his pastimes. Shiva’s various forms, pastimes, and names teach us the art of living and maintaining balance in nature. The form of Pashupatinath teaches us to protect even animals, while the name Neelkanth teaches us to work for the welfare of society. Kailashpati means protecting nature, and the form of Nataraja indicates valuing art. There are many people in Indore who are making these qualities meaningful.
Efforts to Save the Hills: Youth from Indore and Dewas are working to save the hills surrounding the city. To this end, these youth have formed an organization called the Green Army. Environmentalists are also involved with the youth. This team is planting trees on Datouni Hill in Indore. According to Samarjeet Jadhav, associated with the group, the Shankargarh Hill in Dewas had become barren due to mining. After mining stopped, he and some other youth started planting trees on a small scale on the hill. Later, the administration also supported them, and a large-scale tree-planting campaign was launched on the hill. He explained that our effort is to establish an authority for the mountains, similar to the one established for rivers and forests. The group is now working with Indore’s environmentalists around the Ralamandal area. These social activities are benefiting the city’s residents in many ways.
